NBA Shoots for Sponsors
In the 2017-2018 NBA season, fans will notice an updated logo on NBA jerseys. The jerseys will remain the same, except for one small change. This week, owners of NBA teams have voted in favor of including advertisements onto jerseys. This idea came from proposals that were sent by NBA commissioner Adam Silver during the All-Star break in February. The advertisement will be placed on the left shoulder showing a 2.5 by 2.5 inch patch of the sponsor. Numerous teams have already started testing the market and reached out to some potential clients.
This deal includes owners keeping 50% of all revenue from sponsors. The other 50% will be contributed to the NBA pool. NBA teams expect to make anywhere between 4-6 million dollars a year in revenue. This move will not be the only change taking place during the season. Fans will also notice a shift in designers for NBA jerseys. During the 2017-2018 season, Nike will be the new designer of sportswear for the NBA. This move from the NBA is just part of all the new deals that has taken place under Adam Silver. Television deals and apparel deals will boost revenue for the NBA as a whole, and shows the importance of sports marketing any sports franchise.
