Gloria Wood has had a long career in marketing and advertising during which she held management positions at major advertising agencies and marketing services firms.
Currently she is an Advisor to the Board of Directors at REDBOOKS, a lead-generating advertiser and agency online tool used by publishers, ad agencies, and marketers. She collaborates with top management in establishing partnerships with key advertising/marketing industry associations and sells subscriptions to potential users.
From October, 2001 until April 2015, she served as SVP, Editorial Director/GM for Advertising Database, a new business prospecting service for the marketing industry. She oversaw the content team of research/brand analysts that maintained contact database currency, interviewed advertiser and agency executives, and contributed to postings on the company website. She also developed relationships with industry associations and sold subscriptions to media firms and ad agencies Her contribution was instrumental in the company’s growth from four to 35 employees. Her company was acquired by a competitor.
Prior to that she was one of three founding executives at a startup that evolved into a successful marketing industry newsletter and database, Sales-Fax later named AdNation News, where she managed the editorial team and sold the product to new and renewing clients.
Earlier in her career she worked in media planning/buying and account management at various ad agencies. After graduating from the University of Windsor, Ontario she began her career in Detroit, MI buying and planning media at leading agencies including Y&R, Campbell-Ewald, and McCann-Erickson on accounts such as Chrysler, Chevrolet, and Buick. Relocating to the NY area in 1977, she joined Scali, McCabe, Sloves, a Madison Avenue boutique agency that developed the initial strategy and positioning for Volvo and Perdue. She bought and planned media, then subsequently became an Account Manager on the Volvo business before transitioning to Maxell and Perdue.
Whether convincing agency clients of marketing strategies and creative concepts or selling lead-generating services to prospective buyers, she has attained tangible results—a key component for every firm’s revenue and growth. She is now in charge of sales for Universal Sports Education, an online educational content company specializing in the business of sports management.
